About Us

Once upon a time...​​​ Three wayward teachers found their way to Woodmen-Roberts, where they formed the ideal team. ​

We began our journey by competing in escape rooms as a team and found a passion. We saw the positive elements such as problem-solving, teamwork, and communication. However, we noticed that there was a lack of opportunities for children to have these same experiences.

We began by creating an escape room within our classrooms themed to the novel we read. We saw the students have very engaged and meaningful experiences with their learning. They exhibited great communication and problem-solving skills while digging into text, solving mathematical equations, and being able to display the knowledge they had learned during our unit. ​

Based on our curriculum, we were able to create four escape rooms tailored to each unit of study as a cummulative display of student learning. Not only were these experiences that students looked forward to, but also a great way for us to see what they learned. Our escape rooms became "the thing" that our students remembered most throughout the year and upcoming students looked forward to being apart of. A former student even asked us to create this experience for her birthday. We were able to create a custom escape room based on her favorite novel to center her party around.

We have noticed how beneficial and engaging these experiences are for students. With the lack of resources and opportunities within our community, we saw an area where we could step up. With our love of escape rooms and our knowledge of elementary standards, we look forward to creating experiences for children that are not only fun but also grounded in both specific grade-level standards along with social-emotional learning and social behaviors.
